Abstract: This work about the novel Cry, The Beloved Country by the South African writer and politician Alan Paton deals with the influence this book had on the problematic society of South Africa and the world´s view of it. The publishment of this book was abig strike on the political situation of South Africa, showing the racial tension and the problem of apartheid.

I´ve chosen this topic because I like this novel very much and I think that socially engaged literature is very important for the effects it has caused on society and politics allthrough history.And I consider this author as British because his country was a British Colony.
